Purpose The mission of the Collierville Literacy Council is to provide the opportunity for adults to increase their educational skills and abilities in order to improve the lives of themselves and their families. Services are provided by trained volunteer tutors in three areas: adult literacy, English as a Learnd Language, and GED preparation and testing. We alos provide the GED test, in cooperation with the University of Memphis/Carrier Campus, 6 times each year.
Adult students at CLC can receive free individual tutoring once each week for 1-2 hours. Computer instruction software is also available for students to use at their convenience. Office hours are M-F, 9am - 5pm.
Free training workshops for volunteer tutors are held throughout the year. Men and women from all walks of life complete the training workshops and tutor with CLC. The staff provide ongoing support for the volunteer tutors. Tutor training dates can be found on our website or by calling the office. Advance registration is necessary. New tutors are always needed.
CLC is a 501(c)3 non-profit providing services to the community since 1987. Oversight is provided by a volunteer Board of Directors from the community. Funding is provided through fundraisers, United Way of the Mid-South, the Town of Collierville, grants, Collierville organizations, and individual and corporate donations. In-kind donations of consumable office supplies are also appreciated.
